wellsfargo

San Diego Symphony Berton Family Young People’s Concerts offer elementary and middle school students and teachers an opportunity to enjoy a 45-minute, interactive concert in the beautiful, historic Copley Symphony Hall. Led by Assistant Conductor Philip Mann, YPCs feature narration from the stage and are designed to address California State Learning Standards in music and related subjects.

2010-2011 Schedule

YPC 3: March 31 and April 1, 2011
9:45 & 11:15 a.m. each day
From donkeys to trains to automobiles, we have used all kinds of methods to move us from one place to another. Learn how music can depict various forms of transportation.

Fourth Grade Concert*: February 2 and 3, 2011
9:45 and 11:15 a.m. each day
Just because you're a kid, it doesn't mean that you can't make your mark on the world. Some of the best composers got their start while they were still young. Join us for this celebration of children in music and in our community.

*Offered in partnership with the San Diego Unified School District. Additional schools are welcome to register for these concerts based on availability of seats. Please call Adrienne Valencia at 619.615.3911 if you'd like to attend. (SDUSD schools, please register through the VAPA office.)

Docent Visits
Advocates for Classical Music (AFCM) is a non-profit organization established in 1996 to help build future audiences for classical music. Its dedicated docents introduce school children to the instruments and music they will hear when they attend a San Diego Symphony Young People's Concert. They also provide teachers with a recording of the music and a curriculum guide for additional instruction. The visits, curriculum guide and cd are all offered free of charge . Request a docent for your class by checking the appropriate box on the YPC reservation form or by emailing AFCM's Vice President of Education, Aveline von Ehrenberg at ypcdocents@aol.com .

Transportation
The San Diego Symphony currently has a fund to help certain schools with transportation to our YPCs. If you need this assistance, please let us know by checking the appropriate box on the reservation form. Please note: Because we want to assist as many schools as possible with limited funds, our policy is to help either with the cost of transportation or the cost of tickets.
